Otaki Town & Main Road

Otaki along State Highway 1

Historic Otaki is a town of two halves: Outlet shops, cafes, fuel stations and parallel car-parks stretch along State Highway 1. The older town centre is 1.5 kilometres to the west in Mill Road. Major stores on SH1 include New World and Farmlands. In Mill Road, with mostly angle parking, there are Countdown, library, museum, NZ Post, Raukawa Marae and Te Wananga o Aotearoa. Otaki’s population is 35 percent Maori, half of whom speak te reo. Area attractions include Otaki Forks, with picnic, swimming and camping facilities.
